The Truth Behind McDonalds '100% beef' hamburger

I am sure at one point in our lives, we have all had a McDonald’s hamburger. It is a quick and easy fast food option when we are craving a burger. But what is really in a McDonald’s hamburger? Below I will reveal some information that you might not be ready to hear!! Pre-warning!!

McDonald’s outlines their hamburger in their nutritional information and its ingredients look fairly harmless. On their website and on the menu’s in the store they include a nutrition calculator, but this does not show us what is REALLY inside the beef.

They claim to be an ‘All-Beef Company’ and guarantees ‘100% beef’ with no fillers or extenders. In 2018, McDonald’s announced they would be using fresh instead of frozen beef in their hamburgers. They also claim the burgers are prepared with only a pinch of salt and pepper.

Thankfully, McDonald’s and many other fast food chains stopped using “pink slime” in their beef, but they still get their beef from CAFO (concentrated agricultural feeding operation) cows. Not only is this horrible for the animals, but eating beef from sick cows can also be very dangerous for humans.

So let’s get started with what holds the burger together! A few ingredients used in a McDonald’s hamburger bun include:

Ø  Ammonium chloride… that is also an ingredient used with fireworks. Yikes.
Ø  Ammonium sulfate… this is used to get industrially produced bread to rise.
Ø  High fructose corn syrup… this is NOT a natural product and can cause major damage to your health!

The McDonald’s burger comes with ketchup, mustard, onions, and pickles unless you tell them to leave them off of course. Well, turns out the condiments are just as bad for your health.

The ketchup is high in sugars along with high fructose corn syrup. The pickle slices contain many chemicals including one called Polysorbate 80. This chemical is considered safe, but very harmful to people with Crohn’s disease. The mustard ingredients sound normal except for the use of “spice extractive.” What?

It is completely your choice if you decide to eat McDonald’s burgers or not. I simply designed this blog post to educate you on what you are consuming! I think I will definitely pass on a McDonald’s hamburger after all of my research. Remember, your body relies on food everyday so be considerate of what you are consuming!
